HITCHCOCK - MOVIE

I was pleasantly surprised to finally see a trailer for the film Hitchcock. Anthony Hopkins channels the legendary director's voyeuristic spirit during the struggle to make arguably the greatest film of his career "Psycho". Watch the trailer above and you'll get pulled into this tale of Hollywood nostalgia!

The Master - Film

The much anticipated Paul Thomas Anderson film The Master is coming to theaters across the country on October 12th, 2012. This will be the first film to be shot in 65mm format using Panavisions's System 65 camera in the last 16 years. What does this mean? It means that the picture will have double the clarity and richness that we're used to seeing in a 35mm film.

I'm very excited about this film because it chronicles the beginnings of Scientology and it's founder, science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.  Joaquin Phoenix plays Freddie Quell, a drifter and former Navy war vet who just can't seem to find his purpose in life. In his journey of self discovery he crosses paths with a man that seems to have all of the answers to life's questions.  L. Ron Hubbard or known in the film as Lancaster Dodd, is a charming man that has a gift for public speaking and the uncanny ability to manipulate those he comes in contact with.  Amy Adams plays Mary Sue Dodd, the wife of the up and coming prophet.  There is no doubt that this film will deliver noteworthy performances as well as a deep character analysis in mysterious science fiction writer.

THE PUNISHER - Short film

A short film surfaced this year at Comic-Con that rocked comic fans from across the country! It's a legit short film featuring Thomas Jane as The Punisher.  This short film is everything Punisher fans want to see and more.  I hope Jane reprises his role in another feature film as the vigilante that doesn't give a f*ck.  Enjoy!

The Amazing Spider-Man - Movie Review

I finally saw The Amazing Spider-Man! This film is by far my favorite version. The plot is vastly deeper than the first three and the relationships between the characters makes me care about them. I was reeled in from the beginning. The relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy captured the essence that we all feel from meeting that special someone for the first time.  Martin Sheen and Sally Field were also endearing.  They were real people not playing victims, which is what I always root for.  Dr. Connors aka The Lizard was pretty freaking cool in this. I know that's not the best grammar, but I don't care! Rhys Ifans kept the right balance between the doctor and the cold-blooded reptile.  I honestly can't say a bad thing about this film. I went in with low expectations because it's a reboot, but wow was I wrong. If you're skeptical about going to this film, just put caution to the wind and GO!

Killer Joe - The WTF Movie Review

I just got out of the film Killer Joe. WTF! That's all I have to say. That's what I actually said when the credits rolled. That's what the guy sitting to my left actually said. That's what half of the audience said. The funny thing about our response is that it was with laughter and enjoyment. Killer Joe takes you places you only dream of going in a film.  The NC-17 rating is well deserved due to nudity, extreme violence, sexual situations and language.  Now that I have that out of the way I can talk about the cast. Mathew McConaughey was captivating as Killer Joe Cooper.  I never wanted to stop watching him in this role. Like a rattlesnake, his stillness raised the tension and kept you wondering if he was going to strike. When Killer Joe hit, he hit hard. Thomas Haden Church plays Ansel Smith, a white trash idiot that doesn't know his head from his (well you get the picture). Last is new comer Juno Temple. She's mesmerizing as Dottie Smith throughout the film. I have a feeling we'll all be seeing more of her in the coming years.  Also the choices for cinematography and editing were unusual, which kept you glued to the screen. This film is like fried chicken. It ain't good for ya, but it sure tastes good.  I'd say if you want some late night fun then go see it!

Sci-Fi Classic: Blade Runner

If you've never seen the movie Blade Runner then you're missing out on one of the best sci-fi film noirs of the last century. Blade Runner is a peek into the future of Los Angeles with it's heavy multicultural influence and darkly lit backdrop.  It's easy to forget that we're looking at Los Angeles at all and not more of a city of the world.  The film follows detective Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, and his unrelenting pursuit of fugitive replicants. The lead antagonist in the film is the super intelligent replicant Roy Batty, played by Rutger Hauer.  Batty is not only physically superior to Deckard, but also surpasses him intellectually.  Batty's mission is to find his maker/creator and acquire more time to live since all replicants are genetically programmed to expire in roughly 5 years time.  Throughout the film you can't help but ask yourself who's really the good or bad guy.  The film clip above is the only time Roy Batty shows vulnerability and it's touching to say the least.  Rutger Hauer improvs the "tears in the rain" line, which poetically displays his humanity. Enjoy!

Dark Knight Rises - Movie Review

If you haven't seen it check out My Spoiler Free review of the Dark Knight rises!

Well let me start by saying that this film is in my opinion superior to the first two films in the trilogy, which is saying a lot! Christopher Nolan really had his work cut out for him because there were numerous story-lines within the batman trilogy that needed to come to a close.
